The attention of the Committee was drawn to the Chinese Government scheme recently introduced for the purpose of controlling Chinese students going abroad to continue their studies. It was noted that exemption from that scheme has been obtained on behalf of one Hong Kong graduate coming to the U. K. under the agius of the British Council and that it was hoped to obtain similar exemption for another who had been selected for the studentship of £1,000 offered by the Rhodes Trustees. The Committee was
advised that there was reason to expect a more liberal tendency in the future on the part of the Chinese Ministry of Education and that it would be unnecessary to vary the recommendation already made that assistance should be extended to Chinese students in China to enable them to study at Hong Kong University.
The Committee examined certain
notes on Hong Kong University prepared by Mr. G. W. Swire, but the opinion was that no action was necessary as the points raised by Mr. Swire had already been considered by the Committee.
Recommendations regarding a long- term educational policy for Hong Kong drawn up by an ad hoc committee were examined and endorsed with minor amendments. It was noted that the views of the Committee regarding the provision of teacher training facilities and the revival of facilities for vocational training had been
incorporated
